I am currently studying for an Extended Diploma in Photography at level three at Burton and
South Derbyshire College. I would say that my main strengths are working in the darkroom andon Photoshop. I am currently working on improving my skills in the studio; these skills are getting a lot better I am quite confident in the studio by I am just making sure that I do
know what I am doing and that I don't require any help when setting up. I enjoyed the Face
Value (portrait) assignment because it helped me get better at a type of photography I wasn't really that interested in and now I would say I am interested in it. I try to go out and take photos as often as I can as my dad also enjoys photography we can go out together and go on photo shoots which I feel will become much more regular, a lot of my images in my portfolio were taken outside of college time.
I went to the Taylor Wessing award exhibition in 2013, to have a look what was there and see if I could gain any inspiration from them and I would say I did, I enjoyed seeing what other photographers were producing and see what I should be achieving.I have also been down to St. George's Park around three or four times to take some photos and they were really impressed.
I have also done around 40 hours of work experience with Burton Albion during which I learnt about how the world of football photography works. I mainly took photos of the matches but I did take several images of non-match activities such as a trophy presentation and a crossbar challenge.
Throughout my time at the college I have entered several different photography competitions,
the Fujifilm Student Awards in both 2013 and 2014, the Melbourne Emerging Talent Awards in 2014 and the AOC competition in 2014 to name a few. I will be looking to enter some sports photography competitions to see how my images would do and see what I need to do to become a better sports photographer.
